After speaking with a number of people over the years I have gotten the impression that I have a few lucky and maybe rare experiences.  One of the common conversations revolve around dreams or rather nightmares.  Some people have nasty dreams, wake during the night and other symptoms.  Other than what I will describe below, I do not think I have EVER had a nightmare or what people would describe as a bad dream.

I do have repeating dreams or dreams with common themes.  As a kid, going to the playground was always a treat. Some kids play harder than others.  Our family used to compete on how fast you could get going on the swing so you could jump off and land the furthest from the swings!  I wish I had some of that wear-and-tear back, but it was a lot of fun at the time!  So we would swing really fast, let go and jump as far as you could and get back on the swing and do it again. The closest thing I have had to a bad dream is the dream of swinging as a kid.  Everything is the same.  Sometimes lots of other kids (I had a big family so us and a few neighbors was a lot) sometimes I am swinging by myself.  Beautiful day and I swing really fast and when I get to the fastest/highest point I jump.  But now I can see that I am at the edge of a hill, and as I am soaring off the swing the ground below me is dropping off really fast and I am in effect getting higher and higher, even though the swing set is still right behind me at eye level.  I am panicking at this point and cannot believe it. Before I have time to think of something to do I notice I am not falling at all but gently soaring, looking down at the valley below.  The two seconds of adrenaline are gone and I am enjoying a beautiful view on a sunny day.

If you are brave enough….Give me an idea of dreams (or nightmares) that you have.  I think it might tell us a lot about our blogging community.

I have 3 recurring dreams: I lose my car, I lose my wallet, or I get mobbed by uninvited guests.

Ha! I do have similar uncomfortable dreams where I am on the bus headed to high school and I don’t have my shoes or sometimes my shirt on! The uninvited guests mob is a tough one! If the dream continues, do you get them out or do you leave your house…?

I’ll take the leap and be brave. Most of the dreams I have center around music. I’m usually a tour photographer (which is my real life dream/goal too) and I’m in the photo pit, on the tour bus, ect. My other set of dreams center around the beach/ocean. I love the ocean so much. And somehow the beach/ocean dreams end up involving music too. This is a great post! Thanks so much for sharing!

Now I thought I was centered on music! I have met my match. Very balanced; the music and the ocean bordered by the shores. Sounds like a song starting to form! I appreciate you sharing your dreams, that was very good.

You’re very welcome. And thank you for such a great blog. Haha…no, my life is pretty much music. I’m listening to music right now as I’m replying and have been a music junkie since I was about 12 or 13. That does sound like a song. I say go for it!

I am glad you are enjoying your time here. I have been so impressed with this community and you are very welcome! Music junkie song coming up! Ha. That is about the time I became aware of music that affected me as well. I am glad it has served you well over the years.

Yes, it’s a wonderful community. I’m so thankful to be able to share my writing and photograph with others while also hearing what they have to say (or, rather, reading). And I’ll be looking forward to that song. Haha.

I think we all struggle – from time to time – to find what IS real. Sorry, got carried away working on some lyrics HA!

If you have constantly changing themes, I would agree with you entirely. I mention using dreams for replay but they are also great for what I call dress-rehearsals; we go through the future scenario in our dreams to kind of work out what we should do when the event finally happens. Great comment and thank you for sharing them!

  5. I get chased along my long driveway by a goblin. He has big ears and when he runs his knees go higher than his ears. He puts me in a big wooden box on the back of a truck. The dream never goes any further…

That is a good one! My first thought is left over impressions from early Halloween, but that is great visualization! Maybe I do the same thing as you. Maybe I stop the dream or wake up if it starts to get unpleasant. That might be the trigger for us lucky ones. Thank you. Do you remember dreaming in color? or is that very rare?

      Liked by 1 person

      • Always dream in colour! I didn’t know there was any other way! And it can’t have been Halloween as it was never celebrated in New Zealand until recently. It must’ve been in a story I read – like Rumplestiltskin or something.

I have heard that more women dream in color than men. I rarely have color dreams. I thought your dreams might have more of an impact if they were in color!

      • Sometimes, if the dream is ordinary everyday, I wonder “did that happen?” or “did I just dream it?” Like just now – I got up 5 minutes ago – I just dreamt that this guy I know was showing me where he hid the keys to his garden shed!

As I get older it is definitely harder to tell the dreams from something that actually happened! It can be days apart for me and then I have to stop and think, “did that really happen?”!!! I understand what you mean.

Ha! …. are both subjects scary? Just kidding! Our dreams seem to dwell on what is important to us at the time…… to revisit forgotten decisions…… to learn from replay. Do your dreams repeat the same events or just the subjects?

      • Mark Hahn says:

Maybe those are the only two subjects I end up remembering! I know I dream a lot of other stuff, but if it’s boring, I just wakeup, shrug my shoulders and say, “ehh, just a dream!” 🙂

Good point! I do not remember very many dreams – unless I am dozing on and off. So you are probably right. The normal stuff just drifts away as you wake up!

A lot of my dreams lately have revolved around water and swimming. Some at the beach others at the pool, with lots of people around. If i remember correctly, when deciphering these dreams that means there are some issues i need to deal with emotionally, as well as merging things between the conscious and subconscious mind A lot of the times my dreams seemingly make no sense however I do not remember the last time i had a nightmare outside of when i was child. Now the only time i experience somewhat scary sleeping experiences is when i am on the cusp of lucid dreaming and become immobile.

I also rotate through different themes. Some last for a long time and never return. I think I am often ‘replaying’ recent events as I sleep. Each dream is a little different as if I am trying out various versions or responses top the event. Good to hear your dreams have been good. This might not be so rare after all! Thanks for sharing your evening thoughts with us!

Ah …flying dreams… you’re the lucky one. I like the sound of an adrenaline rush at the beginning! I used to have flying dreams a lot…not so much at the mo (tho a wonderful ‘lucid dream’… where I was a dragon flying!… interpret that!). My favourite that’s come up a few times recently tho only once very vivid, is travelling to another planet (in a spaceship) & we arrive at the atmosphere…huge clouds & we’re on the top then hear music & see immense big wheels (think you call them ferris wheels in the states?) coming out over top of clouds & other fairground rides…yr a musician I know…there’s a fairground organ sound but more synth like…gated… nearest I’ve heard is on an album by ‘flykiller’…. distant, ethereal… try & imagine my vision here…v magical ’twas… (Also much darker recurring dreams when I was younger).
good dreaming my friend ! tony

I dream of mazes. Not of being lost. I usually know perfectly well where I am and it is all so beautiful. And in reality, I am indeed fascinated by mazes. A couple of days ago, I am pretty certain I dreamt of an underwater maze.

That is good that you know where you are. A lot of people think that situation can be pretty scary. I love the idea of an under water maze! You should patent it!

Not a dream I had, but when I was a kid, we did the same thing with the swings, always trying to jump further each time. One time I went really far, but when I landed I caught my tongue in between my teeth and bit through it when I landed. It was pretty painful, but I was amazed at how quickly it healed.

A recurring dream shared with many others, I think, is the seven-league-boots one, where my steps are taking me further and further until I realise that I am, in effect, flying. Fun.

I often dream of events that will happen the next day: going to school/work, having an important conversation, so when I wake up I get super confused about whether they actually happened or not!

Good topic! I do that as well. I was telling a friend my ‘bad dreams’ usually were about me going to school and forgetting my shoes or something like that. Then some mornings I would wake up and wonder if I actually did that the day before. Very good and thank you for sharing with us!

I have given this thought Mike. Yep, mine is dreaming I am back in school. Nightmare, my homework not done! I wake in a sweat, never realized I disliked school so much! Recently dreamed I was “drafted” and was scary stuff! Thank God, these don’t happen often!! Good question Mike:) d

Ha! Didn’t mean to bring up old battle woulds from school days LOL! But I think school for a lot of people is an uncomfortable if not scary environment. not surprising it brings up uncomfortable thoughts and dreams at night. now, that getting drafted is a scary one! Always good to hear from you!

  16. I have dreams of wandering through large rooms, sometimes with a party, and most times it’s just a neutral stroll. Once it got bad, but we were somewhat prepared, like it was an RPG like Final Fantasy.

Feels much like the life I live now, a very mobile one that is beautiful and sometimes hard to survive in.

Interesting dream. And you are so on point. Many times dreams can be realistic and other times well beyond fantasy. Unfortunately, life can be like that too! Beautiful at times and hard to believe.

      Thank you!
