Eight Letters”                        © 3-10-2017

I’ve done a lot of things

Some of them turned out wrong.

Wrote pages and pages

Emotions forged into song.

No way to imagine

How I would feel today.

Should have held tighter

Never let you walk away.

Over and over from summer to spring.

Day and night shouting and screaming

After all these years I keep repeating

Eight letters that don’t mean a thing.

Can’t say I didn’t try

Little comfort tonight.

Knowing what I have lost

It would have been worth a fight.

Over and over from summer to spring.

Day and night shouting and screaming

After all these years I keep repeating

Eight letters that don’t mean a thing.

Eight letters that don’t mean a thing.

Promises spoken.  What the future brings.

Eight letters that don’t mean a thing.

Promises broken.  Songs I’ll never sing.

No way to imagine

How I would feel today.

Should have held tighter

Never let you walk away.

Ok I’m almost crying. This is moving and I can feel the angst and the loss. I especially felt it with the lyric day and night shouting and screaming.

Thank you. I often have to write between the lines. It is easy to be callous and cruelly blurt things out, but that can cause more damage than it is worth. There was a recent personal experience that triggered summing up years of failed attempts in my personal relationship with my wife. I knew you would see into it.
I recently put this to music and will post soon.
Not a trick question but I am curious: what eight letters do you think of when you read the poem?
ALWAYS good to hear from you!

I like when musicians write between the lines, because then it is open to interpretation for the listener. Yes, I could see it, because I feel it. Can’t wait to hear it with music. I hope you and your wife are okay now. So I think the eight letters are I love you??

I don’t know any other way to write! Simple lyrics are so limiting and while ‘universal’ they don’t allow the listener to make them about their own experience. Great point!
WE do fine. We know that you have to work at relationships and we always come out the better for trying. Thank you for your concern.
        You nailed it.
        The other thoughts were “I am sorry” and as a musician, the notes in a scale with the octave – _ C D E F G A B C” LOL!

I agree; I like simple lyrics when it’s dancing songs. Glad you are fine. I have always said being married is not normal and really hard, and Bono said, in an interview, yes marriage is not normal and it is very hard; it is like we held hands and jumped off a building (taking the leap). I was so glad someone else agreed that it’s not normal but they still want to do it. Bono said it’s best to know that going in rather than being deluded in a fairy tale. Ah, I am sorry I didn’t see that one, and I like the notes…lol.
