My First And Only Selfie!

Back before it was the thing to do, my wife and I took this picture.  Literally.  One of us aimed it and the other one snapped the photo.  But this was a special occasion.  This is one of the few photos of our wedding.  We got married in the winter in a local park overlooking the city.  It was an extremely small wedding, but we did have a few uninvited guests.  There were a couple of reporters looking for something to write about on a day when there is nothing to write about.  They saw my wife and myself, with our daughter Alisa in hand, as we were reading the wedding vows that we had written to each other and  exchanging roses. We were standing under the small gazebo in the freezing cold; as calm as you please.

They came up and started a conversation, I figure they thought we were just a couple of crazy people that wanted to know what the heck we were doing.  When they realized it was a wedding ceremony, they decided this was something to write about!  They took our pictures – the only others taken of our wedding – and wrote an article that ended up on the 1st page of the People – Events section.  The article was warm and friendly and captured the humor that you can see in our selfie.  If it is true that the bigger and fancier the wedding, the shorter the marriage will be…. we got it made!

  2. Yes, we just had something small in Vegas with a couple of guests at one of those discount wedding chapels. I know so many who had huge weddings and then divorced within months. How wonderful that your wedding was memorialized on such a grand scale though. Certainly someone found that romantic!

I am not wealthy, but I hope even if I was that my wedding would be simple, intimate and honest. Your wedding in Vegas sounds like fun as well. It is unfortunate that many people set their wedding day as the ‘most best greatest perfect moment of their life’….. then the rest of their marriage is kind of a let down! Good for you and thanks for you thoughts. Always good to hear from you! Have a great weekend!

That’s a lovely picture! You two look adorable together! I can imagine how beautiful and simple a park wedding must have been. Sometimes simple can means more then a big, grand, expensive wedding…and that goes for anything, not just weddings. Thanks for sharing!

That is so cute! Thank you. I think it was one of the smartest things we have done and the way it turned out we have a bunch of fond memories. It was perfect for us. Great comments!

“…I want to be rich in memories, not money. Our love is our inheritance, honey…” I think that song lyric sums things up perfectly. It sounds like the two of you have a lifetime of lovely memories. Wishing you all the best!

I now realize that had I earned fame and fortune in my early years, it would have altered and even ruined the memories I have. We have similar experiences interests and friends, so that helps. Thank you, you always have a great point of view on life.

Thank you! I always find it a joy to talk with you. Also, as a side note, the song I quoted in my last comment is “Inheritance” by Jon Foreman. In case you’re curious and wanted to give it a listen.

That’s a heart warming story. Makes a nice down to earth break from all the worldy hubris of political nonsense that’s going on.

I understand what you mean. No easy answers and no guarantees as you know, so no formula for success. Most often it comes down to honesty and a bit of luck. Third time is a charm?? By the way, you are MOST welcome! Share and enjoy!

You’re looking so great! Congratulations for all the years you’ve been together! 🙂 …thanks to the small wedding. Amusing story about the reporters, they really must’ve been lack of stories to stand outdoors in the cold weather and waiting for something interesting passing by, lol!
