The house I bought had no real yard at all.  It was just a small plot but had open properties next to it.  Over the years my wife and I would spend the weekends clearing the brush and vines.  When the land became available we purchased it to make it official.

There were a number of small irregular sections of land all smashed together so we decided to have a survey done to see what we actually owned.  They located most of the original property markers and updated all of them.  They put small orange flags in the ground everywhere to mark the border line.  So I walked to each flag as I walked around our true property line for maybe the first time.

Here is to my realization that I am the only one that ‘values’ my original songs, poems, videos and projects.  So I am the Artist and the Buyer of my own material.

I just can’t write songs about – boy meets girl and says, ‘let’s dance all night’.  Or songs where the words repeat over and over (and over).  I just don’t have it in me, even if that is where all the money seems to be.

Frustration again at social barriers that are so…… ancient.  So last millennia.  Why do we still let the old-world patterns control us as ‘civilized’ people?

Faith and religion have been hijacked by men with a vision of greed, power and indifference.  The rich seem to believe they are wealthy because they are special and deserve it, and that is also why YOU are poor. And so it continues.

An internal glimpse again of the music industry.   Eight letters, sharps and flats; math in motion.  Creation after creation makes you happy but after so many they start to feel the same as all the others.

I consider the – blunt force trauma – concept of going from having more than you will ever need to absolutely nothing.

We can feel safe, strong and invincible in our little worlds as long as we aren’t challenged!  Often we are not as strong when faced with the real tests in life, as we have become to see ourselves.

So many people out there are just trying to live their lives with family and in their communities continue to face the impossible.  Culture, traditions, cast or class, put up barriers we can’t even see.

We find ourselves crushed by the gravity of the past we did not make.  When failure is all but certain, we need to find the energy to stop.

And then start all over again until we get it right.

Introspection can be a bitch.  It is difficult to learn you are a bigger jerk than the people you complain about all the time.  But with a quick change of perspective, you can learn how others see your actions – but without your reasons.  Your ‘reasons’ are just excuses that are just as lame as everyone else’s.

I just like the attitude of this song. A quick look at some of the personalities and traits I run into a lot.  It is easy to make a mess and say the world is against you and life is so unfair.

Tune up your guitars so they are ready when you are.  If someone asks me if I’m ready to play, I will always be able to say, ‘yes’.   (But I’m really more of an engineer than a player!)

Inspired by The Who concert in Cincinnati, Ohio where eleven people were crushed to death in a stampede to get inside for ‘theater seating’ once the doors had opened.  I wanted to go but did not have that kind of money back then.  I am sure some people tried to stop and help.  Some may have died trying.  Either way, the promoters got their money, so they don’t mind.

I remember being proud after writing this poem-song with my brother (Charles) David.  It is an autobiography of sorts from a twenty-something writer!

Often I would sit in the dark while others slept and played my Ovation 12 string guitar.  I would play for a while until the guitar listened to the evening.  Then the guitar would play me.  Many nights what I played was the only thing accompanying me.  I still love this song if you get a chance to listen to it.
