You don’t like that she started lookin’ around,
Checking out other men.
Maybe if you treated her right in the first place
This would never happen.

The first to whine about hunger, they’re starving to death
Haven’t swallowed their last bite.
They proclaim to be tired and exhausted
Never really worked or had a sleepless night.

Right on cue they start to blame a certain few
Things are bad because of them.
So what’s another knee on their neck?
We destroy cultures and display the gems.

I have it made because my family earned it
Taking from others like all men of power.
For my children, I will do anything
I will crush yours under the tower.

Beasts cannot choose their path.
Gamblers never do the math.
Someone is always watching
But no one ever sees.

You don’t like that she started lookin’ around,
Checking out other men.
Maybe if you treated her right in the first place
This would never happen.

Beasts cannot choose their path.
Gamblers never do the math.
Someone is always watching
But no one ever sees.

I don’t see a happy ending
Out of this yet.
There are too many things
I can’t forget.

It’s not like all that it takes
Is just one more year.
Just give it one more day
Then I landed here.

I landed here.
It was a crash landing but I don’t care.
I landed here.
And I’d rather be here than anywhere.
I landed here.

It would be so much easier
The rent has been paid.
It would be so much easier
To leave it unsaid.

I don’t see a happy ending
Out of this yet.
Too many things
I can’t forget.

Going over old recordings I finally found one of my gems from 1977. Back then I was learning to play guitar and my friend TR would jam with me. I knew a few musicians even back then and on the weekends we would gather at my place for dinner and a fun evening.

We would have about a dozen friends come over and after meals and a few drinks we would inevitably pull out the guitars and other toys. I didn’t spend much time learning or playing cover songs. That happened, but most of the time we wrote our own material. Our songs ran the gambit between topics of the day and the humorous things in life. I recorded on state of the art technology in those days: reel-to-reel tape recorders. I had a Tascam (Teac) 4-track machine back then so we could record an AMAZING 4 tracks at one time!

This song is one of our funnier songs. It wasn’t like we were trying to be like the Smothers Brother’s Comedy Hour from 1967, but we enjoyed humor in our music. This take starts with TR vocals and Ovation guitar introducing the theme of the song as I join in with my Ovation 12 string guitar.

Here is the only recording of that song. It is just the two of us jamming late after most others had crashed or gone home or to work. I learned a lot about harmonies during these sessions and still get a kick listening to us making up the arrangement as we go along.

Enjoy a funny blast from the past and wait for the end of the song for the lyrical punch line.

I want to share with you my latest 24 hour song. Written, recorded and mixed in one day. This is “Trance”.

MSK 11 2 2022

It seems to me
This is the place to be.
Outside everything
Inside nothing

In a
Trance
In a
Trance

It seems to me
This is the place to be.
Outside everything
Inside nothing

Internal Glance
Brain Dance
Another Chance

In a Trance

Outside everything
Inside nothing

I know it has been a while since I have posted much, but in reality I have been pretty busy. I have a lot to catch up on, but for now I want to share a new song with you. I wrote the lyrics to “Trap” a while ago and now have music for it. The lyrics have changed a bit so I will include an updated lyric sheet as well.

I have a vocalist coming in to redo the melody track to replace mine, and I will keep my harmony track. Soon another friend will send me bass guitar tracks, but for now, here is “Trap”.

When you think you are making the right decision
Everybody you connect with is on your side.
Well, buckle up your seat belts and hold on to your cap
You don’t know it, but you just walked into a trap.

A trap you can’t get out of. X2
A trap you couldn’t see.
A trap of your own making.
Trapped for all eternity.

Still struggling and squirming trying to believe
Yellin’ ‘I don’t understand’, makes you look like a fool.
All bundled up nice with a box, bow and pretty wrap
However you say it, you’re stuck in a trap.
Lashing out at anyone that comes even close.
You keep pushing yourself further and further away.

Suddenly you hear a loud and powerful snap
Now you know it, you just walked into a trap.

When you think you are making the right decision
Everybody you connect with is on your side.
Well, buckle up your seat belts and hold on to your cap
You don’t know it, you just walked into a trap.

It seems like you are making your own choices
Everything’s going down just like you planned.
The box is smashed and you’re hanging from a strap
However you play it, you’re stuck in a trap.
Suddenly you hear a loud and powerful snap
Now you know it, you just walked into a trap.

Let me get this straight;
You worked all your life to be this?
So many opportunities to learn and grow
Yet here you remain, still.

Asking me to wait;
As if you found the life of bliss?
Doesn’t matter to me if I will ever know
You’re The Only One who will.

In a world full of half-truths and disrespect.
The Only One
Reality converted – digest and dissect.
The Only One

So much given yet;
You feel you should complain, complain?
Hard to remember lies so move on to the next
Double down, dumber, dumber.

In a world full of half-truths and disrespect.
The Only One
Reality perverted – digest and dissect.
The Only One

Unbelievably;
We land inside another chance?
But it looks so much like The Other Ones
You are a song with no beginning.
A chorus that never ends.

A song with no beginning.
A chorus that never ends. A chorus that never ends. A chorus that never ends. A chorus that never ends.

Whenever I hear noises or banging
I turn them into a pattern repeating.
Tempos within syncopated phrases
One rhythm falls another raises.

And the timing of all these pieces fit
Each noise becoming an instrument.
The rhythm drives and then grooves
Cycle completed everything moves.

Soon random notes become a melody
And I just can’t resist adding harmony.
The right chords wrap them all together
Within a beat that goes on forever.

Each song I write is for me, you see.
And I’d rather share my songs for free.
Than to follow orders, rules and liars
So I am The Artist and the Buyer.

My fingers begin to tap with my toes
Memories take me wherever it goes.
Past experience and buried emotion
Lyrics melody then explosion.

Another new song is almost complete
A smile on my face I kick up my feet.
Post where no one hears them at all
As I start to feel new noises call.

Each song I write is for me, you see.
And I’d rather share my songs for free
Than to follow orders, rules and liars
So I am The Artist and the Buyer.

My 6th CD, “The Eye of the Storm” has been released through CD Baby. I am closer to 70 years old than not, so I do not use Spottify, iTunes, Deezer and the rest. If you use these services you will probably know how to search for an artist. Look for the above title or Michael S Kennedy to make the search easier! Looking forward to 2021!

Smiling because 2020 is over!

I just released my newest project on CD Baby. This is my sixth album release over the years.

Very soon the Album/CD titled: “Eye of a Storm” will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok, Instagram, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Deezer, Pandora, and about 150 other streaming services globally. Search for Michael S Kennedy and with a bunch of luck it will appear on the list. The songs and CD are cheaper on CD Baby so you can also save a little cash there.

I think I settled on 18 songs since my last release. I post almost everything on this blog first so if you have been here a few times you may have heard many of these tracks. I really like a lot of these new songs and they include some of the best lyrics I have written. In the year we have had, there were few opportunities for my friends to add vocals or instruments to some of my songs as in the past. As a result, all of these songs were written, performed, recorded and mixed by me. While it is a lot of work and I really wish someone would do it for me, it is also a lot of fun and I am proud to look back at this collection. I hope you try a few out because they are all different in their own right.

Happy new Year!

MIDIMike

Michael S. Kennedy

I have a rough version of a new song called “What You Want”. Well, it is called that now because I put lyrics to it from an earlier Lyric Post.

This is a tune using an old Yamaha drum machine I recently became caretaker of. I set up a nice but simple drum pattern using my Alesis MIDI drum pad and recording again in Studio One 5 by Presonus. I am using the internal sounds in Studio One 5 to play the bass guitar parts, triggered by an M-Audio MIDI keyboard I got with the drum machine and some other cool toys.

After the beat was down and feeling a bit more fun to play with, I added the two guitar parts using my Ibanez electric guitar. I recorded two tracks but instead of hooking up my amplifier and all my pedals, I plugged straight into the mixingboard so it would go direct-out to my computer input.

I used one of the many plug-ins included with Studio One 5 to add effects to the guitar. The built in guitar tuner plug-in is also really handy and I like the way it operates. So no need to connect to a tuner after each practice take. Each guitar track used the same plug-in but set to different guitar effects.

I am working on adding vocals but for now here is “What You Want”.
