Inspired by The Who concert in Cincinnati, Ohio where eleven people were crushed to death in a stampede to get inside for ‘theater seating’ once the doors had opened. I wanted to go but did not have that kind of money back then. I am sure some people tried to stop and help. Some may have died trying. Either way, the promoters got their money, so they don’t mind.
I remember being proud after writing this poem-song with my brother (Charles) David. It is an autobiography of sorts from a twenty-something writer!
Often I would sit in the dark while others slept and played my Ovation 12 string guitar. I would play for a while until the guitar listened to the evening. Then the guitar would play me. Many nights what I played was the only thing accompanying me. I still love this song if you get a chance to listen to it.
Most of humanity has great potential but our leaders seem to be locked in a constant conquest or battle. I just wish we had descended from bonobos instead of chimps. Maybe it is the matriarchal society that makes such a huge difference. I’d be willing to give it a try.
Geo-political conflict. Armies on each side squeeze civilians in the middle. Sometimes the disputes are millennia old and never changing. Other places happiness is shattered overnight.
There is always someone pounding the war drum. Louder and louder.
The local band I was playing in at the time I wrote this had a personnel change. We probably had a few that year if I think about it. We played a lot of Progressive Rock and threw in some original songs as well. During the re-group we considered changing the name of the band. One suggestion was Port Hole.
I decided to write some prog-rock lyrics for a theme song of sorts. We never changed the band name and we never made this into a song, but it has a good 1990 feel to it.
I have been putting off getting a divorce for the last 2 years. At 70 years old it is difficult to start all over again. But that is what is happening now. No better time like the present?
I have been pretty lucky and through work or friends and family trips I have managed to travel a bit. Some very beautiful locations. I am also a guy that like to take pictures.
Vacations are tough because you know it cannot be like that forever. EVENTUALLY you have to go home. Some of these places are so stunning a hundred pictures couldn’t capture even the outline. Take another picture, because I will never leave.
