An early poem of mine that was turned into a song years later. I was always an introvert, I guess. I often write about being alone or leaving parties or crowds early. And I love to walk!
Talking with kids my age was always difficult as well. Most kids didn’t talk like adults. They had silly conversations and well-rehearsed opinions on everything.
I had to slow down so I didn’t sound like Spock in a Star Trek episode! But what I am really looking for is real.
Even if I never find it.

I’m just a page from long and painful chapter.
In a book you will never read again.
My character was strong and loyal to the end.
But the end is here.
Silently suffering the sticks and stones
As he defends loved ones with nothing but words.
But he is not the hero of the story by any means.
Everything stops here.
An awkward sort, always focused on the future,
Aware how determined the righteous can be.
No cape to fly him from the encircling web.
The trap closes here.
In the final pages the reader sees him escape death.
Though that would have been the kindest ending.
Alone, dumped at the end of nowhere, exhausted;
Where’s he go from here?

The poem started off trying to empathize the world of a great musical mind and astounding talent: Stevie Wonder. I imagine so many words have little to no meaning as a point of reference for visually impaired people. Descriptions can only go so far. But there is power in the human touch. You don’t need to ‘see’ love and caring to know it is there. So much of life can be felt within, but the yearning for what others take for granted probably never goes away.

I often wonder why most people fail to see the obvious. Do you really need someone to hit you over the head with one of life’s signs before you ever see one?
Yes. I know from getting hit a few times.

I have many thoughts on a Pleasure Tax. Part of it is the price you pay for having fun or a good meal. Part is penalty for those that want luxury items. Part of it is the toil on your body as the good times start to pile up. We all find out when we get a chance to relax.

I have always enjoyed walking, hiking and riding my bike. Often I take a familiar path but I also like to go off trail and explore. Life is like that.
But the worst thing is to forget which path you are on or where it goes. You get tangled up in the past and present, left or right, and here or there. This makes it impossible to return and difficult to find home.

I was always an awkward kid. Never grew out of it. Not much at parties or groups of people. Learning about yourself from others can be treacherous, so I often trust strangers. My life has been filled with music and melodies, but the answers are still beyond me.

A song about the choices we are given in life. For some, a few keep accelerating, knowing the traffic light is red. You friendly suggest they should slow down and they treat you like a lunatic. They make their decisions and choices without regard for the consequences. They leave it there for someone else to fix or clean up when it is too late for them to stop. A sure cure for arrogance.

I recently added vocals to the instrumental “It Only Takes One‘. This is just a fun song in my opinion. It has a toe-tapping beat with a fast pace to it. I like the simple chord changes and the way it just sticks in your head after you have heard it a few times.
I sent this to my band mates from ‘The Merchants’. We may have a real version at some point in the future. This version is just me and my toys lol.
I have been preoccupied lately with family and life style challenges, though I have still managed to be productive. It is just difficult for me to put things together in a post. Hopefully in the future I will catch you all up, and visit my amazing followers again. I hope you are all having a great New Year.
