Another song where I refer to my personal musical giants and creative genius.  I have always appreciated female vocalists and their style since I first heard Billie Holiday singing on the radio when I was a kid.

She is among many female artists that have shaped my musical world.  Bjork is another artist I have more than respect for over the decades.  This song is a ‘thanks’ to all of them.

These women might be beautiful, but that is not my attraction to their music.  From The First Time I heard them sing, I was already ‘in love’.

I posted lyrics earlier for this new song and I have a mix of the music ready for “It Only Takes One

I am working on the vocals now and will have some ‘filler’ tracks to add at some point. I used drum loops (edited and a bit tortured at times!) for the rhythm tracks. I play all the guitar tracks and added a MIDI bass guitar part from my keyboards ……. until the band can make it in for a session.

But for now, here is the instrumental version.

Happy New Year!

Waking up and trying to remember a dream I was having gave me inspiration for this song.  Trying to capture the moments transitioning from dream state to awake.  Things blend and merge so quickly.  But maybe this dream is not the dream.

Personal relationships can be compared to icebergs floating in the ocean quite easily.  When you travel so far that nothing looks familiar, you have really lost your way.

One thing for sure; you risk your life getting too close to the iceberg, and you never want to see what is at the bottom.  What’s underneath will sink all your hopes forever.

Given Paradise
Everything you could dream of and more
The depths of oceans
Black holes and galaxies to explore.
Wonders of nature
And to finally know about quantum states.
All the time in the world
For a trillion minds to love and create.

Money in the bank
A college degree or two plastered on his wall.
Didn’t take that much
Before we were watching Humpty Dumpty fall.
Facing gravity
All that time holding the smoking gun
Late to realize
How quickly he was counting back to one.

You found your soul mate
Through years of pain and bad advice.
Manipulation,
From people that just don’t want to ‘play nice’….
Now your wedding date
Written in song and stone for all to see.
Becomes nothing more
Than another failed search for a bride to be.

How many people does it take
to really fuck things up?
To ruin a good party
or blow things apart?
How many does it take
For things to come undone?
Turns out, not that many.
It Only Takes One.

With a perfect plan
Everybody’s ready and willing to go.
The execution
Left a lot to be desired don’t you know?
No competition
No enemy trying to destroy what you made.
Reaching for the sun
Your only shot you just threw away.

How many people does it take to fuck things up?
To ruin a good party or blow things apart?
How many does it take for things to come undone?
Turns out, not many. It Only Takes One.

Given Paradise
Everything you could dream of and more.
The depths of oceans
Black holes and galaxies to explore.
Wonders of nature
And to finally know about quantum states.
All the time in the world
For a trillion minds to love and create.

It Only Takes One

                                                       It Only Takes One

The house I bought had no real yard at all.  It was just a small plot but had open properties next to it.  Over the years my wife and I would spend the weekends clearing the brush and vines.  When the land became available we purchased it to make it official.

There were a number of small irregular sections of land all smashed together so we decided to have a survey done to see what we actually owned.  They located most of the original property markers and updated all of them.  They put small orange flags in the ground everywhere to mark the border line.  So I walked to each flag as I walked around our true property line for maybe the first time.
